Call for Tutorials

SIGIR-AP 2025 is looking for proposals for tutorials that explore topics relevant to information retrieval and its practical uses. Each tutorial should focus deeply on a single subject. For example, tutorials might cover well-established areas of information retrieval, introduce new applications of retrieval technologies, or provide updates on recent advances in related fields.

Important Dates

Time zone: Anywhere On Earth (AOE)
Proposal submission: September 5th, 2025
Proposal acceptance notification: September 19th, 2025
Tutorial overview summary due: September 26th, 2025
Tutorial day: December 7th, 2025

Submission Guidelines

All tutorial submissions must adhere to the following format:

  • Title
  • Authors (indication of the main contact person, if it's not the first author)
  • Abstract
  • Motivation
  • Objectives
  • Format and Length: format may be lecture-style or hands-on, or a combination; length is either half-day (two 90-minute sessions with a break) or full day (four 90-minute sessions with breaks)
  • Intended Audience and Prerequisites
  • Relevance to the information retrieval community and reference to tutorials in the same area at SIGIR or related conferences (including WSDM, WWW, KDD, ACL, RecSys, ICML, etc.).
  • Content: Main content of the tutorial organized into sessions
  • Materials: Type of support materials to be supplied to attendees
  • Presenters: Brief biography (max. 2 paragraphs) for each presenter, highlighting relevant experience in presenting tutorials, teaching grad classes, organizing summer schools, etc.

Submissions must not exceed 4 pages, excluding references.

Tutorial proposals should be prepared in the current ACM two-column conference format. Suitable LaTeX, Word, and Overleaf templates are available from the ACM Website (use the “sigconf” proceedings template). The submissions will be reviewed by a tutorial selection committee, and final decisions will be made at the SIGIR-AP Program Committee meeting.

The organizers of accepted tutorials will be invited to submit a four-page summary of the tutorial to be included in the conference proceedings.
